Susan Caron Originals Art Show
(Cobourg)

Prelude to the Show…

You never know how much preparation goes into a one person art show until you live it through the eyes of an artist! The excitement and anticipation can be overwhelming! The artist doesn’t have to worry about his/her art because it has already been painted, but does need to know how many pieces to bring and will they all fit in the car! Then there is the worry of pricing. Are the prices too low, too high or just right? What type of advertising is being done or needs to be done? How will the art be displayed? Who hangs the art? Who should be invited to the show’s opening? And so on… My point is that there is a whole lot to worry about before the show takes place and artist Susan Caron experienced all of these and more. Having lived with an artist for over 25 years, I am well awhere of the process! The days leading up to the show were, to say the least, must have been interesting!
Finally the eve of the “big day” arrived and it was time to pack up and set up. This part of the event went off without a hitch! Fortunately Susan had help from her husband, Nelson and her son, Zack. A sleepless night proceeded the dawn of the “big day”! The Susan Caron Jazz Art Show at Munro’s After Five was about to begin!

The Show – Day…

The show was going to be held in two parts, day and then night, The daytime show was more of a “drop in” to see the art and talk to the artist. Susan was at Munro’s most of the day, greeting and meeting visitors as they came in to admire the art. I had been occupied with other work most of the day and didn’t arrive at the show until late afternoon. Sue had gone home to rest up for the evening part of the show. I was, of course, disappointed she was not there but I knew I would see her that evening. While I was there, I walked around Munro’s admiring Susan’s art and taking a number of photographs. Munro’s After Five owner, Jackie Munro, was there, so I spent a few minutes talking with before I headed home. I wanted to get ready for the evening’s show.

The Show – Evening…

The evening show was a little more formal, invitations had been sent out prior to the show. When I arrived, guests were already there admiring Susan Caron’s Jazz Art! Susan was there amongst all the guests talking about her art. I gave her a quick wave and walked to the back of the restaurant. Nelson was there chatting with one of the guests. I joined the conversation for a few moments and then started to walk around the room. The walls were filled with Susan’s art. The theme of the art was Jazz and Sue’s paintings certainly fit the theme! People had started to break up into little groups, so I went in search of Sue. I found her talking with one of her guests. They were, of course, discussing her art! The evening progressed with admiration and good conversation! One of the highlights of the evening was the “Silent Auction”. Susan had donated an original painting for charity and the winner, towards the end of the evening was announced. The winner was delighted that she had won and hugged Susan to prove it. All-in-all, it was a great evening. Although the Susan Caron Originals Art Show was now over, Susan was already planning for her next “big show”!
